The Grains NTM Summary Report

GTA actively engages with other industry stakeholders to monitor non-tariff measures (NTM) that impact on marketing of Australian grain. Under a Working Group of GGL, GIMAF, GTA, NTMs are monitored, prioritised and actions planned on reducing their impact. The process of identifying NTMs is done via a number of means, including:

  • Discussion at GIMAF forums
  • Industry meetings and direct contact
  • Routine one on one discussions with industry as arranged under a project co-ordinated by GIMAF

Industry participants are encouraged to raise NTM issues as they arise rather than wait for the above meetings and contacts to be made.

All NTMs raised by industry, their impacts and actions to address them are documented in a Market Access Database. That database contains market confidential information however industry can access a summary of the various NTMs held in that database (link here).

To provide advice to industry and government on actions being addressed, the Working group develops a Grains NTM Summary Report using information provided by industry in that database.

A Grains NTM Summary Report was first released on 03 May 2018 (link here) and updated in July 2019 (link here). Key outcomes and findings of the NTM report were presented to Australian Government Departments and Policy makers and internationally through forums such as the International Grains Council conference and the International Grain Trade Coalition.

The report was led by Grain Trade Australia, GrainGrowers and Grains Industry Market Access Forum, in conjunction with the GRDC and Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. Further reports will be developed over time and released to industry.
