Grain Trade Australia (GTA) has responded to industry calls to reflect changes in the varietal classification of four new wheat varieties grown in the Southern region, following the publication of the GTA 2012/13 wheat standards manual on August 1, 2012.

 Wheat Quality Australia (WQA) is tasked with the wheat variety classification process for the Australian grain industry, while GTA administers the industry Wheat Standards (Standards) through its Standards Committee.

Last week (Wednesday 3 October 2012) the Port Access Code Development Committee (CDC) met in Sydney to discuss the potential mechanics of an independent body to monitor compliance of the Code," said the Committee Chairman Mr Tom Keene.

"Good progress has been made and the Committee remains on track to have a draft code available for industry consultation before the end of the year.".

Grain Trade Australia (GTA) has released a draft Code of Practice known as the Australian Grain Industry - Code of Practice (the Code) for industry consultation prior to its implementation.

Tom Keene, Chairman of GTA noted, "with evolving market conditions and the industry’s desire to demonstrate self regulation, GTA Members and the broader grain industry recognise the development of a more prescriptive Industry Code of Practice, which better defines processes and procedures.."

The Chairman of Grain Trade Australia, Mr Tom Keene, has announced the appointment of Peter Reading to the GTA Board.

"Peter Reading is well known throughout all sections of the Australian grains industry particularly due to his role as the Managing Director of the Grain Pool of Western Australia and most recently Managing Director of the Grains Research Development Corporation." said Mr Keene.
