Trading Standards

The GTA Trading Standards are a critical tool for anyone purchasing, selling, trading, brokering or operating in the commercial grain industry. They are reviewed annually by the GTA Standards Committee with significant input from industry.

A Standards Committee have just released their first call for industry submissions on the 2016/17 GTA Standards via Member Update 2 of 16.  This is an annual process and past submissions can be viewed here.

One of the key items for the 2016/17 Standards Review Process is the Weed Seed Review Recommendations Paper, as can be found in Appendix 1 of the Member Update.  A Weed Seed Review Summary Presentation has been developed to provide the background, overview and outline of the agreed amendments within the Paper.

Weed Seed Review

Industry was advised during the development of the 2010/11 Standards that the GTA Standards Committee were reviewing the weed seed categories and tolerances with a view to their simplification.

During the development of Standards in each subsequent year, GTA called for:

  • Industry submissions on the proposed revised weed seed tolerances;
  • Industry involvement in trials to consider the revised weed seed categories and tolerances; and
  • Any other information from industry of relevance to the weed seed review.

A range of industry views were received during the period from 2010 to 2015. A number of trials have been conducted since the review commenced to verify the proposed changes.

The Standards Committee advised industry it intended to adopt all changes in the 2015/16 season Standards, potentially with minor changes as proposed in submissions received. As a result of recent industry feedback, the Standards Committee agreed not to make any changes in the 2015/16 Standards. A further review of all industry submissions received in 2015 is underway and the Committee will advise industry of its deliberations in an industry Discussion Paper to be released for comment prior to the commencement of the 2015/16 harvest.
